Sabayon Linux (formerly known as the RR4 and RR64) - distro GNU / Linux, created on the basis of the draft Gentoo GNU / Linux.
The distribution was created by Italian designer Fabio Erculiani and the development team Sabayon.

History

His name distro Sabayon received under the name of the traditional Italian dessert of whipped egg yolks, sugar and wine.

Sabayon Linux differs from Gentoo in that instead of installing the entire system from source, the initial installation is done using the packages that are pre-assembled and delivered with source codes. Sabayon Linux currently supports x86 and x86_64.

Sabayon Linux uses a package management system Entropy. This system provides management of binary packages built from the unstable tree of Gentoo Linux, compiled with the use of Portage, resulting in packed to the archive package. Customers using Entropy download files and performs pred-/post- compilation by calling ebuild to create, install and configure the package correctly. This means that the system is 100% compatible with the binary system, Gentoo, using the same configuration. Sabayon uses the same basic components as Gentoo, including OpenRC and baselayout2. All the tools to configure Gentoo, such as etc-update and eselect are fully functional. In addition, Sabayon includes its own configuration tools to automatically configure the various components of the system, such as OpenGL.

In addition Sabayon can be used with the system from Gentoo Portage package management, which means that all updates and database features synchronized unstable Gentoo Portage tree and overlays in Sabayon.
